Belgium is a short call for most ships and a long day for the people who have to make it work. The vessel berths early, the guests want Bruges, the tide and the gangway decide everything, and someone has to be standing on the quay when the first car is needed.

That is the part we handle.

Port days in Zeebrugge

Zeebrugge is the main ocean cruise port in Belgium and the gateway to Bruges. In 2024 the port recorded 187 cruise calls and welcomed roughly 557,000 passengers, which makes it one of the busiest single-day destinations in the country.

The distances decide the programme. Bruges is about half an hour from the terminal by road. Ghent works comfortably on a standard call. Brussels is roughly ninety minutes in each direction and only makes sense when the ship stays late.

Antwerp and river cruise calls

Antwerp sits on the Scheldt and receives a different mix: river cruise vessels, smaller ocean ships and private yachts. Guests step ashore close to the historic centre, which changes what is realistic in a few hours.

Within a short drive or a walk you have the Cathedral of Our Lady with its four Rubens masterpieces, the KMSKA and its Rubens hall, the diamond quarter, and the fashion district that made the city’s name. A call in Antwerp rarely needs a long transfer, so the time goes into access instead: opening a room before the public arrives, a private viewing, a table that is normally full.

Note for anyone planning around Rubens: the artist’s residence at the Rubenshuis is closed for restoration and only the garden, the library and the Rubens Experience are open. The paintings are elsewhere in the city. We build the route accordingly.

Yachts and private charters along the coast

The Belgian coast is short, well connected and easy to underestimate. It also has real capacity.

• Nieuwpoort holds the largest marina in the country, with around 990 berths
• Ostend has roughly a hundred berths in the middle of town and can be entered at any tide
• The Royal Belgian Sailing Club marina in Zeebrugge takes motor and sailing yachts up to a hundred feet, with a draft to 4.5 metres
• In Antwerp, Willemdok puts a yacht within walking distance of the old centre

Practical questions

How far ahead do you need a request? The more notice the better for guides and starred restaurants, but late requests are part of this business and we treat them as normal rather than as an exception.

What happens if the ship berths late or the call is cancelled? We agree the arrangement before the call, in writing, so nobody is negotiating on the morning itself.

Do you work with fixed rates? No. Every programme is quoted for the party and the hours available.

How large are the groups you take? Private parties and small groups. This is not a mass excursion operation and we would rather say so than disappoint a client.

Which languages do your guides work in? English, French, German, Dutch.
